The Summer I Turned Pretty, by Jenny Han

The Summer I Turned Pretty, by Jenny Han, is a great beach read. It doesn't take long to get into, and it flows smoothly. This was my first time reading it, though I had heard many, many great reviews. I've read Han's first book, too, Shug. I also recommend that.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is kind-of predictable, yes. I didn't read it for suspense though. I read it for the characters. Han had great character development in Shug, and I was counting on that in The Summer I Turned Pretty. Han came through. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it was great to read after exams when I needed something light to read.

4/5 stars.

I went to the library today and got some of the books they were trying to sell...

Everybody Loves Somebody- Joanna Scott ($0.50)
Netherland- Joseph O'Neill ($2)
All Creatures Great and Small- James Herriot ($1)
All Things Bright and Beautiful- James Herriot (Combined with All Creatures Great and Small)
Elmo Loves You!- Sarah Albee ($0.50, for when I babysit)
What Makes Flamingos Pink- Bill McLain ($1)
Girl Meets God- Lauren F. Winner ($1)
The Thirteenth Tale- Diane Setterfield ($2)
The Heidi Chronicles- Wendy Wasserstein ($1)

I'm excited to have these! It was fun getting 8 books for $9! I suggest you look at your local library for finds like these!

Summer Reading!

For 10th graders the required reading book is The Alchemist by Paul Coehlo and I was also supposed to choose between The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls and Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow by Falza Guene but I decided to read them first and choose afterward.
